57% Say We Should Give Immigration Preference to Cultures That Share Our Values

The majority of voters believe that legal immigration is good for the United States (73%), but there is some tension about who voters think should be given preference.

Fifty-seven percent (57%), say that we should give immigration preference to people from cultures that share our basic values of human rights. This includes a majority of both parties, with Republicans at 64% and Democrats at 53%.

At the same time, 58% say that all cultures are equally valid, including half of Republicans (50%) and a majority of Democrats (67%). Just a third (33%) say that some cultures are more compatible with American values than others.
