Debate Did Not Change Voter Perceptions on Key Issues

Before last Tuesday’s presidential debate, 42% of voters thought Vice President Kamala Harris wanted to ban fracking. The topic was prominently discussed during the debate but it didn’t change anything. After the debate, 41% thought Harris wanted to ban fracking.

The Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 registered voters found similar results on questions about illegal immigration and other important topics. Before the debate, 47% thought a Harris win would lead to increased illegal immigration. After the debate, 48% held that view. Before the debate, 60% thought illegal immigration would go down if Trump was elected. After the debate, 63% held that view.

One reason for the minimal impact of the debate is that the debate audience was filled with partisan fans rather than undecided voters

These Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters were conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on September 11-12, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc.
