On just about every survey over the past four years, RMG Research has asked voters to consider a choice between four presidential candidates of equal skill and temperament. In this past week’s survey, 38% favor a candidate supporting Trump like policies, while 13% prefer a more traditional Republican. Twenty percent (20%) prefer a candidate with Sanders like policies, while 24% prefer a more traditional Democrat.
Those general dynamics have remained fairly stable over the past four years. On the Republican side, Trump-like policies have consistently dominated the number favoring traditional Republican policies. On the other side, the number supporting traditional Democrats and Sanders-like policies have remained fairly even.
We first asked the question in October 2020, 48% selected one of the two GOP leaning options and 48% selected one of the two Democratic leaning options. Currently, 51% select one of the GOP options and 44% prefer a Democratic option.
However, 27% of the Traditional Republicans plan to vote for Harris (just over 3% of all voters).
This Napolitan News Service survey of 2,952 Likely Voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on September 23-25, 2024 and has a margin of error of +/- 1.8. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc.
